The work “a momentary lapse of speed” refers to the few seconds during the race when the car reduces its velocity from high speed to zero stopping precisely on the ground marks in the paddock. This is a moment of extreme concentration when various complex activities are negotiated between the mechanics and the car. The view from above towards the asphalt shows the roughness of the ground in contrast to the sophisticated forms of the machine. The copper tape is the technical link between ground and car, it reduces the electrical voltage surrounding the car.
